Special Forces
Misrepresentations
[Blog note: The use of the phrase “Special Forces” is becoming an all too generic term, and is now being often misused. Read below to see what I mean…
There is only ONE true – and official – “Special Forces” unit/organization in America’s Armed Forces and they are the “Green Berets”.
As a retired Marine Officer, I am not at all comfortable with our current USMC leadership referring to ANY Marine, or Marine unit, as “Special Forces”. We – the Marine Corps – have our own illustrious history and need no “knew moniker”. We are ALL “Marines” and that word, alone, says it all. Any effort to “separate” one Marine (or Marine unit) from other Marines (and Marine Units) by referring to some as “Special Forces” will only cause great harm to our beloved Corps down the road.
On the other hand, it takes away from those who have undergone the arduous training requirements to wear our nation’s GREEN BERET. It appears to this Marine that the term, “Special Forces” is desired by all…but earned by a very few…the Army’s Special Forces.
