PUERTO RICO STATEHOOD PLOY HARMS ENGLISH UNITY

Island’s governor wants statehood in immigration legislation

PUERTO RICO STATEHOOD PLOY HARMS ENGLISH UNITY

ARLINGTON, VA.— “Puerto Rico’s governor is attempting to circumvent the will of the voters of the Spanish-speaking U.S. commonwealth by urging inclusion of the divisive and expensive issue of statehood in any congressional immigration legislation,” says Jayne Cannava, executive director of ProEnglish which seeks to designate English as the official language of the United States.

“Gov. Luis Fortuno also supports H.R. 2499, which mandates a referendum by Puerto Ricans on the issue of whether the Spanish-speaking island should become the 51st U.S. state,” Cannava notes. “That stealth House of Representatives-passed bill could come up for a vote at any time in the Senate, where it could be amended to ensure a rigged pro-statehood outcome– or it could be cleverly wrapped into an amnesty bill.”

“Fortuno opposes any requirement to adopt English as Puerto Rico’s sole official language of government before statehood admission. So he naturally supports the effort to pass H.R. 2499 in the Senate and, if that fails, to slip pro-statehood language into immigration legislation,” Cannava warns. “The better path would be for the island’s voters to decide their future status on their own terms, rather than being forced by Congress into accepting statehood.”

Congressional Lame Duck Opens Pandora’s Box To Adverse Measures For The USA

By ProEnglishUSA | Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Every couple years a possible “lame duck” session of Congress re-emerges into the political limelight, and many Americans are left scratching their heads. So in case you need a quick refresher, a “lame duck” session is when Congress conducts a legislative session after major elections have taken place, but before the successors to the newly won seats take office.

Once again a lame duck session of Congress could be upon us this November, and if you’re not concerned, you should be. John Fund recently noted in the Wall Street Journal that “party leaders are planning an ambitious, lame-duck session to muscle through bills in December they don’t want to defend before November.”

Supporting Candidates for Tennessee House of Representatives

By ProEnglishUSA | Thursday, July 15th, 2010

These candidates for the Tennessee House of Representatives have pledged to support the English language as Tennessee’s official language pursuant to the 1984 Tennessee state law and to support English as the sole language for the Tennessee driver’s license exam for all permanent legal residents.

The exam must be administered in English to save in excess of $ 300,000 of taxpayer dollars, to ensure all motorists can effectively communicate with each other and emergency personnel and to encourage all legal immigrants to learn English.

No government body or person shall be responsible to fund translations, interpreters in the United States of America. It is a simple matter of self-responsibility and independence to utilize God’s gift for one’s survival.

Inquiry to all Tennessee candidates for Governor

By ProEnglishUSA | Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

I just emailed each candidate for Governor and await their participation and/or reply.

Zach Wamp was also asked why, as a US Congressman, he does not support H.R. 1228 which would repeal Executive Order 13166.

Item (g) pertains to Lt. Governor Ramsey. However, as a general inquiry, it applies to the other candidates as well.

July 13, 2010

Gentlemen,

Now that last night’s debate is concluded, I have a few questions that I hope you will answer. As an advocate for the English language and for strict immigration reform, I am compelled to educate voters of Tennessee about the candidates vying to be the CEO of the state. Our state and country are in dire straits. Tennesseans demand and require a Governor with courage, tenacity and the ability to stand up for what is right and for Tennesseans. Special interest groups, businesses and organizations that support illegal immigrants have no place in Tennessee or the United States of America.
